Paul Goodman, Managing Director of Goodman Corporate Finance, has become the first expert to be awarded ‘GURU’ status, in recognition of his dedication to fostering the talents of young business brains.
‘GURU’ status is awarded by Working Knowledge, a social enterprise dedicated to opening the eyes of local and national business to the energy and talent of young people by delivering large-scale events that simulate the workplace. Paul has been involved in their work bridging the gap between education and the workplace by volunteering his time for universities and colleges.
As an expert in business finance, Paul has twice taken part in Working Knowledge events as a business expert for students at Nottingham Trent University and New College Nottingham. He advised the students as they developed business ideas and used his wide ranging experience to offer them an overview of the world of business and corporate finance.
The events also gave the students, as potential future employees, the chance to speak to Paul and the other volunteer experts about their area of business and the career opportunities they offer.
Paul, an elected Board director of the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB), was so inspired by Working Knowledge’s events that he referred several NACFB members to the organisation who then became volunteer business experts at local further education colleges.
“We need to ensure that young people see business finance as an attractive option for them going forward in their careers,” said Paul. “I’m really proud that Working Knowledge has awarded me GURU status, as inspiring the next generation is not only my passion, it’s essential to the future development of companies such as Goodman.”
“Paul has been a fantastic champion of Working Knowledge,” said Ollie Collard, Business Relationship Manager at Working Knowledge. “Not only has he been extremely generous with his time to help support our events, he has also referred business experts with much needed specialisms in finance. His vast knowledge and experience enable him to offer lots of valuable business advice, but more importantly he inspires confidence amongst the students.”
With 20 years’ experience in accountancy practice and industry, Paul offers a real understanding of the SME market, specialising in business turnarounds and commercial finance solutions across a wide range of corporate sectors. Working Knowledge’s GURU badge is awarded to committed individuals who have attended four or more events or have referred others who have become a business volunteer expert.
